This half term in Reception -
This half term our topic is Delights of the Sea, and the children will be exploring stories, art and hands‑on activities linked to this topic as well as looking at a daily weather check, rainfall gauge, temperature and weather of the day . Through our key texts, the children will be inspired to write instructions, look at rhyming words and write character descriptions.
This half term in maths, we are beginning with a focus on decomposing shapes as well as looking at and comparing groups of objects and reciting doubles.
How you can help at home:

- Keep practising counting to 20, especially those tricky teen numbers
- Recognising 2D shapes in the environment.
Over the next half term, we will also be looking at the following:

We will also learn the main parts of a computer; including keyboard and mouse.
A few reminders to help the final half term run smoothly: Summer 2
- Forest School will be on Monday afternoons. Please note, there will be no P.E. this half term, due to Forest School
-
Children go outside in all weathers, so a coat is essential. As the weather gets warmer, please send in named hats. Sunglasses are not permitted to be worn in school, so please keep these at home. Please remember to apply suncream before school.
-
Book bags and water bottles should come to school daily.
Reading books
Reading books must be kept in book bags at all times. A new reading book will be issued every Monday, matched to your child’s current phonics level, and will be collected in on a Thursday.
Please note that if a book is lost or damaged, there will unfortunately be a £5 charge to cover the cost of replacement. To help prevent damage, please do not place water bottles in book bags, as leaks can easily ruin books.
Reading Diaries
Please ensure reading diaries are to be sent in everyday too. If your child is taking part in a phonics or reading intervention, staff will need to make a note in the diary and inform you when this support is taking place.
If your child is currently using a wordless book, please do come and speak to us— we are more than happy to discuss how you can best support your child’s reading at home.
Thank you for your continued support in developing a love of reading!
In Summer 2, we will continue teaching Phase 4 - Little Wandle Phonics Scheme
