Supporting Families

Red Hill Primary School has a Family Support Worker who can offer help and guidance to children and their families in times of need. Carla Keen is in school on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and can meet with parents or children to help address a variety of concerns or difficulties. In school there is a dedicated Family Support room which provides a safe space to share any worries or difficulties you may be experiencing.  Children are very welcome to see Miss Keen during the school day, if they are worried about something or need support.

Carla can support parents in the following areas:

  • Promoting positive behaviour at home – Establishing routines and putting in place appropriate boundaries for children
  • School attendance – Exploring any barriers to attendance and identifying potential solutions
  • Managing behaviours that are challenging – Including ways parents can help children who are feeling anxious, angry or upset.
  • Issues relating to housing, benefits, employment and managing finances.
  • Issues relating to domestic abuse.
  • Issues relating to changes in the family home – Such as parental separation or family illness.
  • Sourcing support and intervention from specialist agencies – Examples include Women’s Aid, Cranstoun, Step Change, Early Help Family Support.

Carla can support children with:

  • Managing difficult feelings, such as anxiety or anger.
  • Increasing self-esteem during difficult times.
  • Being a listening ear for children worried about something at home or school – such as friendship issues, parental conflict, using the internet.

If you would like to get in touch with Carla Keen, look out for her on the playground in the mornings and afternoons or telephone the school on 01905 352524. Alternatively, you can email Carla directly on ckeen@redhill.worcs.sch.uk. If necessary, we will be asking parents and carers to complete a quick referral form so we have a good understanding of your worries.
