Welcome to Year 6

It's great to be back and ready for another school year. We have lots of exciting learning planned, as well as opportunities for pupils to develop their independence, confidence and leadership skills. As the oldest pupils in the school, Year 6 children play an important role in setting a positive example and taking on extra responsibilities. Throughout the year, we will work hard, challenge ourselves and support one another as we prepare for the move to secondary school. We are looking forward to a fantastic year filled with memorable experiences, achievements and plenty of opportunities to grow both in and out of the classroom.

Curriculum

Maths: In Maths, we will be focusing on place value, developing our understanding of numbers up to ten million and using this knowledge to build confidence when solving a range of mathematical problems.

English: In English, our learning will be inspired by Inside the Villains, allowing us to explore stories from different perspectives. We will also use a range of World War Two texts to develop our reading, writing and discussion skills.

RE: In RE, we will be exploring the question "Creation and Science: Conflicting or Complementary?", considering different viewpoints and thinking carefully about how faith and science can work together.

Science: In Science, we will be studying evolution and inheritance, learning about how living things have adapted over time and how characteristics are passed from one generation to the next.

History: This term, we will be learning about World War Two, exploring the causes of the conflict, the experiences of people at home and abroad, and the impact the war had on Britain and the wider world.

Across the Curriculum: Alongside these subjects, pupils will enjoy a wide range of learning opportunities across the curriculum, including computing, art, music and French.
