Autumn Term

In our first half-term, we will become keen historians as we learn all about the Great Fire of London. We will discover how this historical event left a marking legacy and the changes that we made in history to prevent this from happening again. This will be explored through a variety of learning tasks, including an exciting visit from an external historian who will bring the event to life as well as burning our model houses (as part of our homework challenges!) to observe the spread of the fire. 

 In Science, we will be learning about living things and what life processes are. We will explore different categories of animals and their habitats, which will lead us to conduct our own investigation. This will involve creating a choice chamber for a minibeast to see what conditions they prefer to live in. Using our prior knowledge, we will predict which condition they will choose and then evaluate our findings once completed.                                                  

Maths

During the Autumn term, we will be learning about place value within 100. The children will begin by making amounts in tens and ones, using manipulatives to support. The children will learn to partition numbers into tens and ones and write these accurately using a part-whole model. The children will further their knowledge by looking at the value of numbers, plotting numbers on a number line and comparing numbers using greater than >, less than < and equal to =.

English

In English this term, we will be focusing on the text "The Disgusting Sandwich" by Gareth Edwards and Hannah Shaw. This story follows the journey of a sandwich at the park and an eager badger on a mission to eat it! 

Through close reading and shared discussion, children will explore the story, developing their descriptive writing, sequencing skills and using interesting vocabulary. They will develop their descriptive writing skills by using adjectives, expanded noun phrases and a range of conjunctions to write our own narratives. 

RE

Our key question for RE this term is "Who is Jewish and how do they live?"

The children will be introduced to the religion of Judaism, firstly by looking at significant artefacts and exploring key vocabulary such as Torah, synagogue, Shema, Mezuzah. We will make connections with significant celebrations or traditions to these artefacts and compare these with our own lives through reflection.
