Welcome to Our Final Half Term in Reception!

We can’t believe we’ve reached our final half term of Reception – what a wonderful journey it has been so far! The children have grown so much in confidence, independence, and curiosity, and we’re so proud of everything they’ve achieved.

This half term, we’re diving under the sea for an exciting new topic! Our learning will be inspired by the fantastic books How to Be a Pirate, The Rainbow Fish, and Commotion in the Ocean. To bring our topic to life, we’ll be heading out on some amazing adventures, including a visit to The Sea Life Centre and our whole school trip to Weston.

As part of our topic, we’ll explore what seaside holidays were like in the past and compare them to our own beach experiences today.

In maths, we’ll continue working with numbers to 20 and beyond, deepen our understanding of number bonds to 10, and explore patterns in a fun and engaging way.

We also have a very exciting arrival to look forward to – chicks in Reception! We can’t wait to watch them hatch and grow, and use this special experience to learn more about lifecycles and caring for living things.

Here’s to a magical final half term together!

Supporting Learning at Home

To help your child continue to make progress, please remember to:
📚 Read with them regularly – sharing books together helps develop vocabulary, comprehension, and a love for reading.
🔡 Practise phonics flashcards – this will support their confidence in recognising sounds and blending words.

  • A few reminders -
  • Forest School takes place on Mondays.
Please ensure your child comes dressed appropriately, with their arms and legs fully covered for safety. Thank you for your support!
  • Please ensure your child brings a water bottle to school every day to stay refreshed and hydrated.
  • Keep us informed about who will be collecting your child at the end of each day, especially if there are any changes to the usual routine.
  • Read our weekly newsletter sent out every Friday. It will provide you with valuable information about our school life, the learning your child has been doing, and any important upcoming dates.
