This half term in Reception - Let's Celebrate 🎉

This half term is all about celebrations! We’ll start off with a bang as we learn about fireworks and Bonfire Night. The children will then explore why the poppy is significant before learning about Diwali, the festival of lights.

As we move closer to December, we’ll be finding out about Christmas traditions, discovering why Christmas is such a special time, and beginning to practise our Nativity performance. We’re also really looking forward to our trip to Little Owls, which will help bring the magic of Christmas to life!

In English, our focus books will be:
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
Owl Babies
A story all about polar lands

In Maths, we will be learning to:
Recognise, represent and compare numbers to 5
Explore and describe 2D shapes
Use positional language to describe where objects are

It’s going to be a wonderful half term full of exciting learning, celebration, and festive fun!

A few reminders to help the next half term run smoothly:

  • Check Arbor in order to consent to our trip

  • PE is on Wednesdays – children should come to school dressed in their PE kit.

  • Forest School is on Tuesdays.

  • Please name all hats and gloves now the weather is getting colder – we cannot easily return items if they are unnamed.

  • Children go outside in all weathers, so a coat is essential.

  • Book bags and water bottles should come to school daily.

  • Reading books;  These must be kept in book bags.  A new book will be issued on a Monday, in line with the phonics level they are at and will be collected in on a Thursday.

In Autumn 2, we will continue our teaching and learning of  Phase 2 sounds.  Click on the link below for guidance on how to pronounce each pure sound clearly. For parents | Letters and Sounds
